Your Golden Oldies Game Report
Hi everyone, well it was a sensational autumn day for great running rugby and our game vs the Caboolture Fossils last Saturday proved to be just that!. They arrived with minimal numbers but as we had plenty of soldiers to go into battle it was us vs us , which is always fun to say the least!. The great thing about playing after 1st grade is the fun atmosphere the crowd generates even though we sometimes get a few nerves playing in front of such massive numbers! Mike 'unstoppable' Elliston lead the 'probables' team from the front, spinning , weaving and barn storming to set up tries and score a few himself. Steve 'no one gets past me' Moore was his usual defensive perfectionist but ran the ball more and orchestrated some excellent field movements. Mal Picton is one tough hombre!..dont get in his way, it can hurt!. Pete and Dave were running like the wind, along with Toddy they all were dodging and swerving like Ray Price in his prime!..'West Coast ' Wayne Fleming was the smash em down , eat up the metres and off load in pressure situations kinda guy you always want in your team and Nathan the Baker ( a club sponsor by the way, Currumbin Bakery!) was making dough of a few of the defenders with his strong runs. I'm still pickin grass outta my ears after he singled me out for speed bump practice!. Great to see Macca continue his early season form and in true GO tradition brought his mate James who had a fantastic first ever game of rugby after previously playing league. He really enjoyed his afternoon.
Special mention goes to 'Bluey', who is a junior coach at the club. After turning up to touch to get his fitness levels up, he fronted with his boots and played an epic game with true spirit and toughness. Talk about toughness, John Skinner leads with his forehead and usually ends up with blood accross his face. He is also very cheeky and is expected to front the GO tribunal to shout them beers after intentionally slowing down play more than once.
Sorry if I have forgotten to mention you, its not that you didnt have a good game, more likely my brain cannot remember all the action!.. Next game vs Beenleigh Grissly Bears at Beenleigh, Friday May 22nd, bus and cars leaving from the club at 6.30...Pat
