Gator Girls Competition 2

This weekend sees the return for our Gator Girls Rugby in the Gold Coast comp. Last term there were 8 Friday nights, and this returns with the addition of 3 Saturday carnival type events, starting this Saturday at the Coomera Sports complex. We’ve had interest shown by new teams from Brisbane, Northern Rivers, Sunshine Cast and the Darling Downs, and the Saturday comps have been added to expand our great little competition.

Our first Girls player profile this week starts off with one of our excellent U15 Girls- Zoe Hanna. Zoe is from Casuarina way, and is into her 3rd year of Girls Rugby 7’s after starting out playing Netball, Oztag and Touch. Zoe was introduced to Rugby 7’s through her brother and family, and is now a Rugby nut herself- playing for our U15’s then backing up for our U17’s and anyone else that needs an extra player. The worst part of Rugby for Zoe is hard training when she’s tired haha, but she has a massive work rate out on the field and stands out even amongst the older Girls. Zoe’s goals are to play Rugby competitively and working towards starting a career in Rugby someday, and with the Cyclones representatives and State champs at the back end of the year, we’re sure Zoe will be a feature.

Ready Gators?

With only two months to go until this year’s U14’s Tour New Zealand, we take a look back at last year’s U14 Tour as they said thank you to all of the Gators Community for the support they received. The annual tour is one of the many great reasons to play Rugby at Gators.

Volunteer of the week

This week’s Volunteer of the week is Vlad!
Vlad joined Gators this year, and didn’t quite hit the ground running with his Rugby for the Seniors. He suffered a season ending injury in a pre-season trial game, leaving a bit of a dent in the Senior playing roster for 2018.

To his enormous credit however, he rolled up his sleeves, got stuck in and has been a huge contributor off the field in many vital roles. As assistant coach to the Seniors, he has been a great support to both our head coach, Anthony Dwyer and to the Senior players themselves. Vlad has also been lending a hand and many a wise word to our U15’s this year. The forwards in particular have been learning some great skills under his tutelage

He then also stepped in to fill the recently vacated Rugby Coordinators role, on top of his full time work commitments and his rehabilitation from injury.

Vlad is busy behind the scenes planning for the 2019 season, in between all his 2018 commitments. PBC Alleygators are certainly very lucky to have Vlad on board and wish him a full recovery from his injury.

If you’d like to lend a hand to help make our club a bit better, please contact rugby@alleygators.com.au . You don’t have to do as much as Vlad, but as we keep on saying every little bit helps and, ‘many hands make light work’
