CLUB NEWS

A Christmas & New Year Message from the Club President…

To all our valued members here at the Alleygators Rugby Club and on behalf of the Management Committee I would personally like to extend ‘Best Wishes’ to you all for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The year gone by saw your Committee faced with a number of challenges both on and off the field, however in the true tradition of the “never give up” attitude here at the Alleygators our Club weathered the set backs and knock downs with a determination to stand up and be counted.

The very positive aspects of dealing with challenges is the way loyal Club Members, Administrators, Staff, Players and Volunteers, as well as our valued Sponsors,  stay committed to our Club.

Your Management Committee have worked very hard since the end of last season. We have introduced a new management team. We have restructured our rugby administration. And we are putting strategies and goals in place to make sure our Club will continue to be successful and sustainable for the future – both in our Licensed Premises and with our Rugby Operations.

Once again ‘Best Wishes’ to you all for a safe and happy ‘Holiday Season’ and I look forward to seeing you in and around the Club in the New Year.

Regards,

Ken Jarvis.
Club President.

2NDS COACH

Highlights of his career include the famous Toothless Gators victory over GPS Golden Gallopers at their fortress home ground in Ashgrove; and enjoying the rare privilege of playing with his son Tom for the mighty Gators Thirds in 2016.

The Club welcomes Anthony Dwyer as Senior Men’s 2nds coach for 2018.

Anthony will work closely with Senior Head Coach Van Humphries to ensure a successful season at the Alleygators.

SOUTHERN CROSS ACADEMY

Southern Cross Rugby Academy

Our 1st off-season Rugby development program has finally come to an end last Friday afternoon.

Our Strength and Conditioning was provided by Brodie Ledgerwood at Salt Fitness and Consulting in Burleigh, with the boys all showing massive increases in work rate and strength and the testing results are awesome.

We covered mobility/flexibility and progressed from body weight exercises (handstand holds and bear crawls) to a lot of the boys using dumbbells/barbells (Farmers carries and Deadlifts) during the sessions. Another favourite was a massive truck tyre used in short bursts around the car park, the boys at first were scared of scrapping their hands trying to lift it, but by the last session we went for a solid 45min tyre flipping each player flipping it then running around a lamp post or doing body weight exercises until it was their turn again.

On-field focus was on Rugby’s core skills- Catch/Pass, Tackle tech, Ball Carry/Presentation and Breakdown tech. We worked these hard in the 1st 4 weeks and then started introducing Attack vs Defence style drills and games, allowing the boys to work on their newly acquired skills in game play. Again the noticeable difference in techniques was awesome, and a direct reflection of the players hard work and attitude throughout.

The Southern Cross Rugby Academy would like to thank all those involved- the players, and parents also in getting the boys to sessions, and we are over the moon with results and the attitudes shown by the group. Plenty of work already going into planning our calendar for next year, and further opportunities for developing all young players Rugby skills and experiences.
