Girls 7’s News

THIS FRIDAY: We also get another run at hosting Girls 7’s this Friday night at the Rugby club again with games beginning at 6:00pm and running through the evening. The Gator Girls would love all the support we can get down cheering on some outstanding Rugby 7’s.

8 AUGUST: We’re looking forward to hosting the Gold Coast Girls Rugby 7’s competition – making it an even bigger day!

GC Girls Rugby 7’s Comp

Last Saturday saw the start of the Gold Coast Girls Rugby 7’s competition start back up for Season 2. Our U15’s, U17’s Girls (and 4 players from the Opens merged with Helensvale Hogs to make up a team) travelled up to Coomera Crushers and had a full day of Rugby 7’s. With each age group guaranteed of 4-5 games on the day it was going to be a massive change for the Girls, so used to playing 2x games in the normal Friday night comps. Our U15’s were first on the field and were slow out the blocks to go down to Miami SHS, and our U17’s were slow to get going also vs a very physical Coomera Crushers. By the end of the day we had the U15’s playing for the Bowl vs Sunnybank, going down 22-10 in a great effort as they were improving game by game. Our U17’s played well in beating Coomera again 29-10 and was a great effort with all the Girls on their last legs. Such a great event hosted by the Coomera Crushers.

Sense Rugby

SENSE RUGBY is launching at the Alleygators!

On behalf of the Alleygators Rugby Union Club, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce SENSE RUGBY to our Club.  As we are thrilled to have you joining us!

Sense Rugby was founded in October 2015 by Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Carlien Parahi and Australian Rugby Sevens Olympian, Jesse Parahi. Sense Rugby is a rugby based Occupational Therapy program designed to help kids who usually find it difficult to be part of a sports team. There are many reasons why kids may struggle to find success and enjoyment in sport. We are here to help get to the bottom of it and send them on their way to success.

Brining the first Sense Rugby program to Queensland is Kids & Community which is a paediatric occupational therapy practice based at West Burleigh. Charmaine Owen the Director of Kids & Community is a Gold Coast local and after tripping around in younger years settled back on the Gold Coast in 2002. Kids & Community has been operating since 2006 initially as a sole provider and now a vibrant team of 8 energetic occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and admin support staff. They provide occupational therapy and specialist support services to children and families in the greater Gold Coast and Tweed coast areas. They work with children with a range of difficulties form children with significant disabilities to children with specific issues like sensory motor difficulties or management or anxiety. Charmaine said “It is our strong desire that we run this group in the environment in the community where other kids play and train.”

As the Junior President of the Alleygators Rugby Union Club I am both honoured and looking forward to sharing our facilities with the many children and families to ensure Sense Rugby has a home within our community.  You can see the program in action on a weekly basis in QLD school term on Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm-4.30pm then 4.45pm-5.45pm.

*For further information about this program please contact Director Charmaine Owen at charmaine@kidsandcommunity.com.au

Volunteer of the week

This week’s Volunteer of the Week goes to Matt Wildman or Chook to most of us. Chook is the Under 9’s coach and continues to help out with the Under 12’s, a team he has coached for so long. Most Saturdays you will see him lending a hand wherever he is needed either in setting up, turning sausages or running on to ref a game when there is no one else that can do it.

Thanks Chook, the Alleygators couldn’t do it without people like you.

If you’d like to lend a hand to help make our club a bit better, please contact rugby@alleygators.com.au . You don’t have to do as much as Chook, but as we keep on saying every little bit helps and, ‘many hands make light work’.
