Annual Sports Lunch 2018
Alleygators Rugby Club hosted over 150 guests at the Annual Sports Lunch on Friday 31st August 2018 which was considered by all as another enormous success!
Billed as the “ Up Close And Personal , Only Show On Show Day“, guests were treated to pre lunch beverages on the front deck and were able to network and mingle with our special guest speakers prior to the formal table sit down. Our resident, Master Of Ceremonies, Mark Forbes delivered his always professional and personal interviews with guests, Brent Kyte (Rugby League), Stirling Mortlock (Wallaby) and Darren Lehmann (Australian Cricket Coach). The room was also entertained by the comedy of the inimitable Mandy Nolan who brought the room to tears with laughter.
Fine food delivered by our very talented Club Chef Josh, with the addition of quality ales and great wines, had our guests well satisfied prior to the raffles and auction items. MC Forbesy whipped the room to a bidding frenzy, which was managed by Kristy Smith who acted as record keeper with close eye on the transactions. Guests adjourned back out to the deck for some well deserved ‘sundowners” while our very hardworking Management and Staff tuned our Club back into a Club for our regular members. The Lunch was deemed “one of the best” by all who attended with calls for more of the same in the future.

Gold Coast WIN Network Women’s Sevens
This week is the last week of the Gold Coast WIN Network Women’s Sevens competition for 2018. After completing the final Friday night comp on Show day up at Helensvale Hogs, we now move to Coomera Crushers fields this Saturday 8th September to play for the trophies provided by GCDRU. Our U15 Girls have been going strong, and have formed into a great little team under Coach Brett Granville. They have entered a team in the Noosa International 7’s competition in early October and we are hoping to keep all the Girls playing next year and really bolstering our playing stocks for years to come.
The U17’s have been soldiering on, a few Girls are welcomed back after schedule clashes, but these Girls won the 1st round Plate and will be pushing for another shot to take the series. Unfortunately, our Opens team have been hit with injuries and we have a few players travelling around the world, so we have had 4-5 Girls mixing with other teams at each round and getting to play with them is not a bad thing as it broadens their playing skills and experiences too. Good luck Girls and we hope to post some good news next week.
Southern Cross Rugby Academy Sevens
Southern Cross Rugby Academy Sevens program had its 1st of 5 training sessions for U18 boys and girls on Wednesday night (5th) at Nerang Bulls Rugby Club. We can’t wait to lead the players through to competing at the Noosa International 7’s competition on October 14th. We have also teed up touring matches vs a NZ school over for the competition, which will allow us to track how the training has gone. Good luck guys!!!
Volunteer Of The Week
This week’s ‘Volunteer of the Week’ goes to Glenn Rossiter
Glenn has been a contributor at the Gators for many years now, and volunteers his time in important areas. Glenn is passionate about the local community and the role our Rugby Club plays in it. One of Glenn’s regular contributions is through the Thursday night raffles, where he dedicates his time weekly. His prowess at Thursday night Trivia is a matter for debate of course!
Glenn was and still is a driving force behind the Christmas Family Day, now in planning for the third year. This event takes a lot of planning and coordinating to make it all happen, and Glenn works tirelessly on this. The event is fast becoming a signature event for our Rugby Club and our local community.

Thank You To Our Special Volunteers
The Management Committee wishes to acknowledge and send out a very special thank you to all of the Club’s Volunteers who continue to deliver help around the Club on a very regular basis.
Our Newsletter readers would have seen our ‘Volunteer of the Week’ segments in previous editions and we value all of the wonderful people who make a difference with their generous help.
A Special Mention:
Alleygators Rugby Club hosted a number of Junior and Senior Rugby Matches on Sunday 2nd September 2018 (yes on Father’s Day) as part of our commitment to GC and District Rugby Union’s end of season semi-finals.
On our fields and around the Club ALL DAY were Kristy and Kurtis Smith, Stacey and Nathan Smith, Kate and Nick Pearce, Daragh Murphy, Eamon Cremin, Steve McIntyre, Ryan Roberts and members of their families to help manage the day. They attended to duties including game day management, sideline marshals, field and tent set up, beverage booths, catering stalls and of course, end of day cleanup. An extraordinary effort! Well Done and A big Thank you!
