Old Boys Day – July 7th
Hey OLD BOYS! It’s time to meet again and talk about how good we were and reminisce the good old days playing for the ”Beach”. Let’s see who has more grey hair or less as the case may be, lost that stunning playing physique, the dodgy knees or walking with a limp! The last big reunion was a great success so let us see if we can make it even better!
Join us on Saturday July 7th when the boys play Coolangatta Tweed BaaBaas which has always been a good local derby. Dress code for the day: wear an old Alleygators polo shirt or playing jersey (If you haven’t got good excuse to buy the latest polo!) There will be a prize for the oldest polo/ jersey that still fits.
Please text Rick the Pom on 0417628856 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further info and to say you will be attending. Pass the word around to all your ex playing mates!
New Rugby Coordinator hits the ground running
Vlad started playing club rugby at Wanderers in the Newcastle and Hunter region and got his first taste of coaching the U14’s side at the club alongside one of the fathers and continued to coach and play until he left to play in Sydney at Randwick. There Vlad also played and coached Colts rugby starting with 3rd Colts then 2nd’s as well as the scrum and line out coach for the 1st’s.
After a decade in Sydney, Vlad was given an opportunity to move to Warwick to help rebuild their one team club on and off the field. In his first year there, they made the semi finals for the first time in 16 years since the club made finals appearance in 2000. The following year the senior men’s side missed out by one point. They then started the first women’s 7’s side which had a record signing of 20 girls and made the grand final the same year and now the club has expended to three 7’s sides (Opens, U17’s & U15’s) teenage boys U17’s and a growing number in the senior men side.
In Vlad’s words, “Since making the move to PBC, I have been given the opportunity to take on the role as Rugby Co-ordinator and I’m looking forward to developing the club culture and creating a fun environment for all members of the club on and off the field.”
Volunteer of the Week
This week’s Volunteer of the Week goes to Nick Pearce. Nick is the Vice-President of the Board, a Founding Director of the Southern Cross Rugby Academy and Coaches the U14’s and U9’s Junior Alleygators teams. He designs and organises the Alleygators rugby gear and merchandise, as well as securing the sponsorship for the club. He has re-designed the club logo and new website, organised the new newsletter and proofs it weekly.
This year Nick started the Business Directory, he is a tireless fundraiser for the U14’s NZ rugby tour and is an obsessive tidier of the gear shed! Phew! Funnily enough “Volunteer for the Week” was actually Nick’s idea to give thanks to the people who give so much to our club. Nick is off to Greece and Ireland for a well earned break so thank you Nick for all that you do for our Alleygators community!
If you’d like to lend a hand to help make our club a bit better, please contact email@example.com . You don’t have to do as much as Nick, but as we keep on saying every little bit helps and, ‘many hands make light work’.
