Rugby News

Last Friday saw a 1st for the club with our U15’s Boys and Girls Rugby 7’s teams jumping on a bus and heading up to Noosa Rugby club for the annual Noosa 7’s competition. Unfortunately, due to very bad weather and player/spectator safety issue, we had to turn around after getting 3/4s’s of the way up there due to the event being cancelled.

We were also lucky to host some touring teams last Monday 8th October, in preparation for the competition. Due to northern clubs fields having ground maintenance by council starting, we were able to invite the teams down at late notice. Our boys team playing host to an U17’s school from Kaikoura in the South Island of New Zealand, and also an U15 and 17’s teams from Singapore, and the GC Eagles U15’s also.

The teams ran 3 games each and it was good experience for our lads, some who haven’t had a lot of playing 7’s, but was great to see the way the touring teams played on the night.

Register now for the Off season program

Southern Cross Rugby Academy is proud to announce our off season program is open for registrations. The 2018 program is calling for boys and girls aged between U12’s and U19’s and is designed to build the physical capabilities, performance mindset, core skills and position specific skill set of each player. Each participant receives specialised strength and conditioning programs, recovery, nutrition education, performance reviews, tracking and a progressive skill development program. The program runs from Monday 22nd October through till Sunday 9th December, and we will hold 3x Sunday beach conditioning sessions also.

Weekly sessions are held at Alleygators Rugby club Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for Boys 5:00pm to 6:30pm and Girls sessions are Monday and Wednesday 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Each session maintains its own Rugby focus to allow our participants maximum exposure to learn and develop throughout the program.

Volunteer Of The Week

This week’s volunteer of the week is Ben Martin. Ben is one of our magnificent U8 coaches, and together with his fellow coaches has built a great squad of eager Gators fielding two competitive U8 sides all season. Ben has played Rugby League and REAL Rugby at an elite level in NSW & QLD.

He regularly states that the highlight of his career was his season playing Senior Rugby here at PBC Alleygators, where he went an entire season without missing a single tackle… or so he says over a beer on a Friday night after training! Thanks for your time Ben, our Club is lucky to have you…

If you would like to offer a helping hand at Alleygators, email rugby@alleygators.com.au

PS; If you get a chance, watch the video on the website. Keith Urban flew in and played at this year’s fundraiser and over 2 million was raised!
