Last Thursday saw us host the Fijian Commonwealth Games Rugby 7’s team, in a training “scrimmage”. This training “Scrimmage”- similar to playing games but no contact/tackle, allows teams to practice game situations like line-outs, scrums and kick offs but without the physical contact. The Fijians were definitely well prepared in the lead up to Comm Games, they were very fast around the field, and the communication was always loud.
From the early play, our Girls were able to manage around the field led by Jess Elliston and Sophie Holyman, but even a simple mistake and the Fijians would swoop on it and race away. There was food provided for players via our Fijian supporters Ata Satala and many others, so a big thanks for the food! It was awesome for our Girls in lead up to the GCDRU comp starting Friday 27th April- further details to come on exact locations and playing times.
